Qigong
(Chi
Kung)
is an ancient form of meditation and body movement that is growing
in popularity and recognition. It has been referred to as "meditation
in motion" and "easy yoga." It consists of 4 simple
and easy components: 1) gentle movement, 2) deep breathing practices,
3) meditation/visualization and 4) self-massage.
Qigong consists of very simple movements that people can do in their
own home. It requires no special equipment, no age or ability limitations,
no special skills and very little space... only a little time and
willingness to learn. And, in return, it offers numerous health
benefits.
Qigong
is great for busy people who are stressed and/or don't think they
have the time or energy to exercise. You will have so much fun doing
the simple movements that you will wonder where the hour went and
you will feel a deep level of peace and well-being when finished.
Most
people know that meditation is good for them, but who has time to
stop to do it? And, how many people can really clear their minds
for more than a moment anyway? That's the beauty of Qigong! By focusing
your attention on simple, gentle movements (and your breath) you
are able to clear your mind with no effort! If offers all the benefits
of meditation and visualization, and is very easy to do. It can
lower your blood pressure, and put your brain into an alpha state
similar to the relaxation you feel from a good night's sleep. This
beneficial state offers you peace-of-mind, clarity and a general
sense of well-being. You won't even realize that you are meditating
but your body will know and you will feel relaxed and refreshed!
Qigong
will increase body awareness (in a good way), balance and coordination.
With time and practice you will begin to feel centered. You'll begin
to listen to what your body is trying to tell you. You will handle
stressful situations with more ease, and feel more in control of
your life. You will begin to think clearly, and focus long after
you have completed a class. In fact, the benefits and feelings of
well being will stretch into your week!
